Jaime Vilató's story is about his creative calling and the way he sees his environment. Becoming a full time photographer at the age of 80, now, in his mid 90's he goes out early each morning, walking around Barcelona photographing the reality bites that catch his attention.
When asked about his creative calling he said, "You arrive at an age in your life when you cannot lie to yourself anymore".
Originally from a family of painters and doctors, he inherited a unique combination of artistic and visual sensibility as well as the detailed and analytical view of someone working in the medical profession. Jaime's work invites you to empathise with this vision, observing his sense of humor, his artistic world and also the way he describes Barcelona in his work. Finding the perfect combination between both an analytic/ journalist study and a creative artwork, he says: "Sometimes I like things as they are, not as they supposed to be."
Jaime prefers to show his work in series of the same issue, however, on this occasion we have selected some of his images with the intention that you, the visitor, have the chance to imagine the series in it's entirety.
It is extremely impressive that at this age, Jaime is still able to keep the fresh view of a young photographer balanced with the wise view of an experienced human being.
